HOW TO GET TO MARTHA'S VINEYARD

Martha’s Vineyard is an island located seven miles off the coast of Massachusetts. The only way to get here is by ferry or by air. Once on the island, visitors can get around by car, bike, or public transportation. The island has several rental car companies, as well as bike rental shops and a public bus system called the Martha's Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA).

By Ferry: The most common way to get to Martha's Vineyard is by ferry. There are several ferry companies that operate both year-round and seasonal service to the island. Ferries depart from several ports on the mainland, including Woods Hole, New Bedford, and Falmouth.

The Steamship Authority

A daily, year-round passenger and car ferry service between Woods Hole, MA, and Martha’s Vineyard; to Vineyard Haven (year-round); to Oak Bluffs (seasonal).

Reservations: Advance vehicle reservations are required and can be booked online, or by calling (508) 477-8600. Passengers traveling to Martha’s Vineyard without a vehicle may purchase tickets online or at the terminal on the day of sailing.

Parking: Parking is not available dockside at the Woods Hole terminal. Off-site parking is available with a complimentary shuttle service between the lot and the pier. 

Approximate Sailing Time: 45 minutes

Seastreak Ferry

A seasonal Passenger Ferry Service between New Bedford, MA, and Oak Bluffs, MA.

Reservations: Advance reservations are recommended especially for travel during the peak summer season. Reservations can be made online, over the phone, or in one of the ticket offices.

Parking: Valet parking is available at the New Bedford terminal. Offsite parking is available with a complimentary shuttle service between the lot and the pier. 

Approximate Sailing Time: 1 Hour

Martha’s Vineyard Fast Ferry

A seasonal Passenger Ferry between Quonset Point, RI, and Oak Bluffs, MA.

Reservations: Advance Online Reservations are highly recommended and offer the best available rate. All walk-up purchases will incur a $5.00 fee. 

Parking: Dockside parking is available.

Approximate Sailing Time: 95 minutes.

Island Queen

A seasonal Passenger Ferry between Falmouth, MA, and Oak Bluffs, MA.

Reservations: Advance Reservations are recommended and available for purchase online.

Parking: Parking is conveniently located within a short distance of the ferry terminal for both day & overnight parking.

Approximate Sailing Time: 35 Minutes

Falmouth-Edgartown Ferry

A seasonal Passenger Ferry between Falmouth, MA, and Edgartown.

Reservations: Reservations are not required but are suggested to ensure space onboard.

Parking: Valet parking is provided onsite.

Approximate Sailing Time: 1 Hour

Hy-line Ferry

A seasonal high-speed passenger ferry service between Hyannis, MA, and Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs.

Reservations: Advance Online Reservations are highly recommended.

Approximate Sailing Time: 1 Hour

Private Boat: Visitors can also reach Martha's Vineyard by private boat. There are several marinas and harbors on the island that offer docking and mooring services.

By Air: Martha’s Vineyard has a small airport, Martha's Vineyard Airport (MVY), which is served by several regional airlines.

Cape Air

Year-round, daily flights to the island including Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS), (JFK) International Airport, White Plains Westchester County Airport (HPN), New Bedford Regional Airport (EWB), Hyannis’ Boardman-Polando Field (HYA) and the Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK).

Delta

Delta offers seasonal service to Martha's Vineyard from New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

Jet Blue

Jet Blue offers seasonal daily service to Martha’s Vineyard from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA), New Jersey Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Boston Logan International (BOS), Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA),

American Airlines

American Airlines offers seasonal daily service to Martha’s Vineyard from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Charlotte Douglas (CLT), Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)

Private Plane or Charter Flight:  Visitors can reach Martha’s Vineyard by private plane, or by a charter service.
